    • Moment-To-Moment
    • Action-To-Action
    • Subject-To-Subject
    • Scene-To-Scene
    • Aspect-To-Aspect
    • Non-Sequitur

Task 3: Digital Triptych (Graphic Novel) - Exploring Scott McCloud's Transitions

The Task 3 assignment aims to utilize Scott McCloud's transition theory to craft a digital triptych. This triptych will consist of three panels: one depicting the moment before a significant event, another capturing the climactic turning point, and a third illustrating the aftermath of the event. Each panel will represent a distinct transition type from McCloud's theory, including moment-to-moment, action-to-action, subject-to-subject, scene-to-scene, aspect-to-aspect.

1) Research
  • I have search some references from Google to complete this task

2) Sketch
  • I have created sketches prior to commencing the digitization of my illustrations, with two versions for each of the before and after stages

3) Digitization

  • I have chosen Before (Version 1) and After (Version 1) to proceed with digitization.

  • On Week 11 physical session, I sought advice from my lecturer, Mr. Hafiz and I was recommended to use Before (Version 1) as my before panel and Before (Version 2 ) with some modifications as my after panel.

4) Final Digitization

- Panel 1 (Before)
  • I have made some modifications on the car front lights

FEEDBACK

Week 11 (Online):
In Week 11, I messaged our lecturer, Mr. Hafiz, on Microsoft Teams to finalize my sketches before proceeding to the digitalization of the composition. He reminded me to utilize only three panels for this task.

Week 11 (Physical):
During Week 11, I participated in the physical session to receive feedback and instructions for the final assignment from our lecturer, Mr. Hafiz. He advised me to employ the Before (Version 1) sketch as my before panel and to make some modifications to my Before (Version 2) sketch, which would serve as the after panel for digitization in both cases.

REFLECTION

Throughout Task 3, I learned about Scott McCloud's transition theory and how to apply it to complete the Digital Triptych assignment. The theory encompasses six transition methods: moment-to-moment, action-to-action, subject-to-subject, scene-to-scene, aspect-to-aspect, and non-sequitur. Additionally, I gained insights into emphasizing storytelling to the reader by utilizing only 3 panels to convey the complete narrative of the chosen urban legend, the Yellow Volkswagen on the Karak Highway. Moreover, this task provided an opportunity to employ these transition methods in my illustrations, enabling me to narrate the story effectively within the constraints of 3 panels.
