FINAL REFLECTION

  • What have I learnt in this module?

Through this module, I learned about the nine design principles: Contrast, Gestalt Theory, Emphasis, Balance, Repetition, Movement, Harmony & Unity, Symbol, Word, and Image. I deepened my understanding of these design principles by applying them throughout Tasks 1 to 3. This knowledge has also enabled me to analyze and comprehend artworks more thoroughly.

  • What did I enjoy the most?

While completing these tasks, I enjoyed exploring various art styles and learning about the background stories or purposes of the artists or creators behind the intriguing artworks. It was fascinating to uncover the meanings they aimed to convey to society.

  • What did I not enjoy the most?

I didn't encounter anything I didn't enjoy in this module, as I enjoy exploring new things, conducting research, and creating designs based on themes from the UNSDG Goals. However, I did face some challenges and difficulties while completing these tasks. I struggled with decision-making and selection, particularly in making choices while selecting a UNSDG Goal and picking a piece of artwork for Task 1,  as I tend to find it hard to make decisions.

  • What have I learnt about myself through this module?

I learned that I am capable of generating creative ideas and composing artwork while applying design principles during Task 3, which boosted my confidence. Additionally, I realized that I struggle to effectively convey the purpose of my artwork. Thankfully, I received suggestions and advice from my lecturer, Ms. Jinchi, to enhance my artwork and covey the message of gender equality in a more engaging manner. This opportunity allowed me to explore my thoughts on this UNSDG goal and express them through my design.

  • What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?

Throughout this learning journey in the module, I've noticed a significant change in how I observe artwork. I now delve deeper into analyzing them using design principles. Additionally, I've enhanced my knowledge in design, which is crucial for my success as a designer. However, I haven't altered my approach to creating the final artwork which I still enjoy gathering thoughts and comments from my peers and lecturer to ensure my artwork effectively conveys its message in a captivating manner.

  • What could be improved in this module?

For this module, I personally believe that while having all pre-recorded lecture slides and notes accessible on MyTime and Microsoft Teams is convenient, but I still prefer face-to-face classes for better absorption. I find that simply watching videos sometimes leads to distractions, making it challenging to concentrate compared to being in physical classes.
